The Syarh: Journal of Quranic Studies maintains the highest standards of peer review while increasing the efficiency of the process. All research articles published in this journal undergo rigorous peer review, based on initial editor screening and anonymized refereeing by at least two anonymous referees.

1. Double-Blind Review Policy

This journal uses a Double-Blind Peer Review system. This means that the reviewers of the paper will not know the identity of the author(s), and the author(s) will not know the identity of the reviewer. This ensures that the review process is fair, unbiased, and focused solely on the scholarly merit of the manuscript.

2. Initial Manuscript Evaluation (Desk Review)

The Editor-in-Chief or Section Editors first evaluate all manuscripts. Rare manuscripts are rejected at this stage. Manuscripts rejected at this stage are insufficiently original, have serious scientific flaws, have poor grammar or English/Arabic language, or are outside the aims and scope of the journal.

  • Plagiarism Check: Before being sent to reviewers, all manuscripts are checked for plagiarism using Turnitin. The maximum similarity index allowed is 20%.

3. Reviewer Selection

Manuscripts that pass the initial screening are sent to at least two (2) independent expert reviewers. Reviewers are selected based on their expertise in the specific subject area of the manuscript (e.g., Tafsir, Living Quran, Quranic Hermeneutics).

4. Review Criteria

Reviewers are asked to evaluate the manuscript based on the following criteria:

  • Originality and Contribution: Does the paper add new knowledge to the field of Quranic studies?
  • Methodology: Is the research methodology appropriate and rigorously applied?
  • Theoretical Framework: Is the theoretical foundation sound and relevant?
  • Clarity and Structure: Is the writing clear, logical, and structured effectively?
  • References: Are the references up-to-date and relevant? (We prioritize references from the last 10 years).

5. Decision Categories

Based on the reviewers' recommendations, the Editor will make one of the following decisions:

  • Accept Submission: The manuscript is accepted without any changes.
  • Revisions Required: The manuscript is accepted subject to minor changes.
  • Resubmit for Review: The manuscript requires major changes and will be reviewed again after revision.
  • Decline Submission: The manuscript is rejected.

6. Review Timeline

The typical time frame for the review process is 4 to 8 weeks. However, this may vary depending on the availability of reviewers. Authors will be notified promptly if there are significant delays.

7. Final Decision

The final decision to publish a manuscript is made by the Editor-in-Chief and the Editorial Board, based on the reports provided by the reviewers. The Editor’s decision is final.
